LECTIONARY & PRAYER
“Prayer is just talking with someone who’s already talking to you.”
– Robert Farrar Capon
The cornerstone of our faith is prayer — a daily conversation with God. Prayer can take on myriad forms, whether it’s silent meditation, reading through scripture, or any other activity performed with intention and mindfulness.
We hope that these resources will help you be in conversation with God on a daily basis!
St. Paul’s by the Sea Library
All parishioners are welcome to visit the library at St. Paul’s by the Sea. There are many new & new-to-us books about a whole range of topics – from theology and spirituality to church history. Be sure to come pick up your library card.
Morning and Evening Prayer
The Daily Office (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, Noonday Prayer and Compline) is the core of Anglican Spirituality. These are times we set apart to spend with God in the context of the worshipping community. Whether the Office is prayed at church, at home, or even online – there’s a deep sense of praying with other Christians throughout the world.
Forward Movement offers The Daily Office from the Book of Common Prayer every day of the week
Forward Movement is a ministry of the Episcopal Church, which provides daily meditations based on scripture readings appointed by the lectionary and Daily Office. Forward Day by Day is published in English, Spanish, large print, audio cassette, and Braille editions, and the daily meditation is available online.
