JOIN SPBTS

While membership is not required to participate in activities or be considered a part of this parish family, all people are encouraged to make their membership official either by transferring membership from another Episcopal church, by statement of transfer from another denomination or through baptism, confirmation, or reception.

TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIP

If you have been a member of an Episcopal church or any other denomination, your membership can be transferred to St. Paul’s by the Sea by contacting the Parish Administrator in the church office.

baptism

The basic requirement for “membership” in any Episcopal Church is baptism. The Episcopal Church recognizes baptism from all other Christian denominations. Written notification of baptism from a different Christian church is sufficient. People desiring to be baptized at St. Paul’s by the Sea may contact one of the clergy members or call the church office.

confirmation

“Confirmed” indicates that a person has made a mature and public affirmation of their baptismal vows and undergone laying on of hands by an Episcopal Bishop in a congregational worship service.

reception

When someone has been confirmed by a Bishop in the Catholic, Lutheran or Eastern Orthodox Church, that person can be received by an Episcopal Bishop.

Confirmation and Inquirers Classes

These classes are for people who wish to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church, for any confirmed Episcopalian who wishes to learn the basics of faith, and for anyone who simply wants to explore what we believe. The classes explore the basics of Christianity (God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, history of the Church, etc.) as well as the way the Episcopal Church lives out that basic faith through worship according to The Book of Common Prayer, Bible Study, and service to others. Confirmation classes will be scheduled annually, normally in the spring.
If you would like more information on becoming a member of St. Paul’s by the Sea or for information on transfer of membership, baptism, confirmation, or reception please contact the church office..
