CONFIRMATION, RECEPTION & REAFFIRMATION

CONFIRMATION

St. Paul’s by the Sea offers instruction for confirmation for young people when they believe they are ready to express a mature commitment to Christ and publicly reaffirm their baptismal vows before a bishop.

Anyone 15 years or older is eligible for Confirmation. Since it is the Bishop who confirms, confirmations take place on the occasion of the Bishop’s Annual Visitation to the parish (this varies from year to year). Confirmations also may occur regionally within the diocese. If you’re interested in confirmation or want to learn more about upcoming dates, please speak with a member of the clergy and fill out the Confirmation Interest Form.

The presence of a bishop for Confirmation allows for Reaffirmation of Faith, through which baptized adults may reaffirm their commitment in a recognized way; and Reception in which persons baptized and confirmed in other Christian faiths may be “received” into the Episcopal Church.

CLASSES AND INFO

Confirmation and Inquirers Classes are for people who wish to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church, for any confirmed Episcopalian who wishes to learn the basics of faith, and for anyone who simply wants to explore what we believe. The classes explore the
basics of Christianity (God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, history of the Church, etc.) as well as the way the Episcopal Church lives out that basic faith through worship according to The Book of Common Prayer, Bible Study, and service to others. Confirmation classes will be scheduled annually, please contact the church office to see when the next class will be offered.

Persons desiring confirmation, reception, or reaffirmation should contact the church office. We’re so glad to have you among us!
