Newcomers and Inquirers Class Series on Sundays in May

Curious about St. Paul’s by the Sea or the Episcopal Church?

A Newcomers and Inquirers Class Series will be offered at St. Paul’s by the Sea during the month of May, meeting over four Sundays in the Christopher Conference Room at 8:30 am.

This series is designed for anyone who is new to St. Paul’s, anyone interested in Baptism, Confirmation, or Reception into the Episcopal Church, anyone who would like a refresher, and anyone who is simply interested in learning more.

Participants do not need to be brand new to the parish to take part. The series is intended for anyone who has ever wondered why the church does what it does, or who has wanted a place to ask questions and learn more about the life of the church.

Four Sundays Together

Sunday 1 (May 3): Welcome to St. Paul’s by the Sea
An introduction to parish life at St. Paul’s, including who we are, a little parish history, how leadership works (rector, wardens, and Vestry), and ways to get involved in the life of the church.

Sunday 2 (May 10): The Church on Sundays and Through the Church Year
A walk through the Sunday service, the meaning of symbols and prayers, and how worship changes through the seasons of the church year, including Holy Week.

Sunday 3 (May 17): The Church at Prayer and at the Table
An introduction to the Book of Common Prayer, along with a conversation about Baptism and Holy Communion and why they are at the center of Episcopal life.

Sunday 4 (May 24): The Episcopal Church Then and Now
A look at Episcopal Church history, how the church functions today, and what it means to live as an Episcopalian in the world now.
